Image restoration and enhancement of a self-portrait daguerreotype by Robert Cornelius (1809-1893) taken in late 1839. Generally accepted as the first known photographic portrait of a person taken in the United States. Often reported to be the world's first selfie, though several other self-portraits by Hippolyte Bayard (1801-1887) appear to have been taken earlier.
